Kos is right. November 2nd was two days ago. All the tears in the world can't change what happened. But all the Republican confidence won't win them a larger majority in the house and senate in 2006. Who do we enlist to cut their powers? Ourselves!
We took 60 thousand dollars, put it in Richard Morrisons hands, and made Tom Delay spend 2 million. Because of that, Chet Edwards won his seat in Waco. Without our support, Richard Morrison doesn't stand a chance and Delay campaigns heavily in central Texas. We won that seat for Chet Edwards, and nobody even mentioned his name.
Now it's time for the next step, fellow Kossacks. Keep giving money. Keep talking. Keep blogging. Keep voting. Lets add one more thing to that- run for office.
The Democratic party is the strongest when we represent the needs of the nation. As a nation we need sherrifs, dog catchers, county commissioners, tax assessors. And we need to run canidates. NO UNCONTESTED RACES! Go out there and run losing campaigns if you have to. A losing campaign with a Democrat on the ballot is better than an unopposed election. Spend 500 dollars of your own money to file papers and put up a few signs. The republicans will spend 1,000 to hold what they should have. We can win a war of attrition- if we make them fight it.
You don't have to quit your job to run for school board. It isn't impossible to get on the city council. Make sure EVERY RACE has a (D) on the ballot. My conservative home county in Texas had three democrats on the ballot. They all lost, but they get people to split their votes! How many people walked in, and rather than hit straight ticket made sure to vote for the Democratic canidate for sherriff? Of those, how many UP ballot races did it change? Once again- Chet Edwards got votes in Hood County that he may not have, all because people brought themselves to vote for one Democrat- why not two?
I'm living in DC now, but I will be back in Granbury Texas eventually. And when I am, I will contest any open race every election that I am able. Even if it's just a write-in campaign, I will not let the Republican Party steamroll my hometown!
Don't let them do it to you either. You can resist. And let regimge change start with us- in the voting booth and on the ballot!
